Bruce Melville is beginning
his first year at Taylor High School. Mr. Melville was born in
Austin and grew up in San Antonio. He went to school at the University
of North Texas, and received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and
a Master’s degree in Music Theory from the University of Houston.
Mr. Melville plays trombone
and played
professionally in the Houston area for 28 years and shared the stage
with Dennis Dotson, Conrad Herwig, Randy Brecker, Bernadette Peters, Don
Henley, and many more. Mr. Melville taught at Katy High School
where he was the Director of Jazz Studies for seven years.
Recently he moved to the Dallas area and was the Director of Bands at
South Grand Prairie High School. Mr. Melville has returned to the
Katy area as Associate Director of Bands at Taylor High School, where he will
be conducting the Jazz Band, the Symphonic Band, and the Junior Varsity
Band.
Mr. Melville is a member of
Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and
Texas Jazz Educators Association. He is married to Sharlu
Melville, and has a daughter, Meredith, who lives in Chicago doing
comedy, and a son, Patrick, who teaches Spanish at Coppell High School,
a daughter-in-law, Haley, and two beautiful granddaughters, Izzy and
Ellie. Mr. Melville's hobbies include fishing.
