Cedric Stanley is in his second year as
Color Guard Director for the James E. Taylor High School Band. Mr.
Stanley is also employed at the school as Library Aide & Front Office
Assistant.
Mr. Stanley began his training in high school as a percussionist where
he marched percussion during the fall semester and did Winter Guard
during the spring semester. He began as a cymbal player, moving up
to snare in his sophomore year, and continued on snare through the rest
of high school. Mr. Stanley graduated Clear Brook High School in
1999. In college, Mr. Stanley marched snare as a member of the
Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjack Marching Band for two
years. He was on the same snare line as our Associate Director of
Bands, Christopher Bailey. Mr. Stanley was President of Phi Boota
Roota (Percussive Art Fraternity/Sorority) while at SFA, and a Steel
Drum Band member. He graduated from SFA with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Economics and Minor in Business Management in 2004.
While in college and afterward, Mr. Stanley had a wealth of performance
experiences including marching with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle
Corps, Madison, Wisconsin, for three seasons in 2000 (bass drum), 2002
(Color Guard), and 2003 (Color Guard Captain). In his rookie year
with Madison Scouts, Mr. Stanley and Associate Director of Bands,
Michael Howard, were on the same bass line, proving it is indeed a small
world! Mr. Stanley performed for the Nolan World Winter Guard in
2004 and for the 2008 Code Black Winter Guard (2008 WGI 12th place
finalist).
Prior to joining Taylor, Mr. Stanley had taught with several groups from
around the country including Vivace Winter Guard (2006 Independent Open
class WGI participants) from St. Louis, Missouri; Teal Sound Drum &
Bugle Corps (2005 Division II 5th place finalist; Color Guard 4th); and
Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps (2004) - Division I. He also taught
programs at Collinsville High School, Rockwood Summit High School,
Parkway West High School, and Windsor High School.
In addition to Mr. Stanley’s position with the Taylor Color Guard, he
has recently been a clinician or consultant for several other successful
programs such as Code Black A (new A class program branching off the
World class in 2009), Cedar Park High School, and Clear Brook High
School.
Most of Mr. Stanley’s time is taken up by Color Guard activities with
little time left for other hobbies. However, he does love cooking
and trying new ingredients and flavors. Says Mr. Stanley, "If I
could be on Food Network traveling the globe experiencing distinct new
flavors and recipes, I would in a heartbeat!" He also enjoys
traveling and the performing arts. Mr. Stanley lives in the
Cypress area of Houston.
