Christopher Bailey is in his
fifth year with the James E. Taylor High School Band. He was an
Associate Director for four years and is beginning his first year as
Director of Bands. His duties include conducting the Wind Ensemble and
Cadet Band, as well as supervising and managing the Taylor Color Guard & Winter Guard.
Under his direction, Taylor High School ensembles have experienced a high level of success. The students in Mr. Bailey’s ensembles work very hard to perform a high level of literature while having a great experience doing it.
Previous to his current position, Mr. Bailey was completing his graduate studies at Baylor University where he received a Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting, studying with Dr. Kevin L. Sedatole. Mr. Bailey holds a Bachelor degree in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University where he studied percussion with Dr. Scott Harris and conducting with Fred J. Allen. Mr. Bailey is a frequent participant in conducting workshops, where he has studied with Sarah McKoin, Frederick Fennell, Jerry Junkin, Michael Haithcock, Kevin Sedatole, and Mallory Thompson.
Along with his course work at Baylor, Mr. Bailey served as Drumline Instructor for the Golden Wave Marching Band, and Assistant Conductor of the Concert Band. He also held active duties with the Wind Ensemble, Courtside Players Basketball Band, and beginning conducting class. He was a frequent guest conductor with the instrumental ensembles at Baylor University. He also served as Percussion Instructor for Waco High School concurrent to his time at Baylor.
Mr. Bailey is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Percussive Arts Society, National Band Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.
Mr. Bailey is the husband of Shelley Bailey, who is a band director at
Cardiff Junior High in Katy, and father of
four-year-old son, Owen Lee, who is the coolest kid on earth!
