Concert Bands  ______________________________________________________________________

The directors of the Taylor High School Band believe that all students have the right to be a member of a successful musical ensemble. A successful musical ensemble is one that is small enough to allow for plenty of individual attention from the instructors, one in which the instrumentation is balanced, and one in which the students are as close to the same ability level as possible. For these reasons, the Taylor High School Band operates several different musical ensembles, and students are placed into one of the ensembles based upon an audition. Auditions for band placement are held twice a year. In May, students audition for placement for the upcoming fall semester. In December, students audition for possible reassignment in the spring semester. The audition consists of four or five parts: 1) a technical etude; 2) 12 major scales and chromatic scale; 3) sight-reading; 4) portion(s) of the Taylor Band Warm-up; and 5) past performance/director recommendation.
