The Band & band
families enjoyed some fun tailgating during the
Mustang's playoff games this season. A HUGE thank
you to our very own Brisket Boys! Dave Pitts,
Russell Faldyn, Chris Bailey, Dale Morrison, Michael
Howard, Jamie Morris, and John Silliman
stayed up all night cooking the delicious brisket that
was served prior to the game at Tully Stadium on
November 29. Thanks also to all the helpers who made the
JET Band tailgate party work so smoothly.

The Masquerade
Party on November 7 was great fun, and as is
tradition, a Senior Team won the Scavenger Hunt and the
Drum Majors won the food drive competition. Even
more important, all the sections did an excellent job of
contributing much-needed items for donation to Katy
Christian Ministries. Bruce Kingwell, Director of the
KCM Food Pantry, called to express his sincere
appreciation for the very generous donation from the
Taylor Band. Thank you to everyone who
participated, and special thanks to our Chairs, Ellen
& Paul Yates, for organizing everything!

The Band Booster Fall Garage Sale
on October 4, 2008, was another huge success, clearing
over $4,000! Thank you to everyone who donated
items, and to everyone who gave their time and effort to
work at the garage sale...it would not have been so
successful without all the help and support. A special
thank you to Andy Gust and Kyle Brown, who
gave up part of their Friday to help transport the large
items, and then were back at 6 AM on Saturday morning
for more punishment! Much appreciation goes to our
Garage Sale Chairs, Jan & Jeff Work... we know this
year was a special challenge with the rescheduling made
necessary because of Hurricane Ike. Click
here for the Garage Sale page and details on the
next one.

A very special thank
you to the Robert family for their extremely generous
donation. Because of their generosity, the band will be
the proud owner of an Adams 5-octave, rosewood marimba.
This fabulous instrument not only enhances our concert
performances, but also gives our students a better
opportunity to be successful at solo and ensemble
competitions. Thank you!

John Adams,
band parent and BP employee, submitted the Taylor Band
as a BP Fabric of America Fund recipient and we
were chosen! We received a check for $500 in October
and the following note:
John R. Adams, a BP employee, has recommended your
organization as one that makes a positive contribution.
To express our gratitude, BP would like to present a
gift from the BP Fabric of America fund. Please accept
the enclosed check for $500 with our sincere thanks for
the important work you do.
The letter goes on to say:
Again, thank you for working to make a difference in
people's lives. We hope our support will help you to
continue the work that has made an impression on those
around you.
What wonderful recognition for Taylor Band and a
generous gift as well... thank you John and BP!

The Band Olympics, Pizza Dinner & Swim
Party on August 22 were great fun as usual!
Thanks to Erika and Louis Meneghetti for heading
up the event, and to all their helpers for continuing
another cool JET Band tradition!

A sincere thanks to all of our volunteer
workers for the Burger Bash on August 16.
The Set Up Crew, the Onion/Tomato/Lettuce choppers,
Serving Crew, Clean Up Crew.......all of you guys worked
so hard to make the afternoon a success! Of
course, we have to give a big THANK YOU to Mac DeLaup
of John Eagle Honda for providing all of our
Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, and supervising the entire
grilling process! We know the hot weather was
tough to take, but you did it all with a big 'ole smile
and we sure appreciate it! Thank you to everyone
in our JET Band family for making the Burger Bash a
wonderful way to start off the Marching Season....
sharing great food, great friends, and great
entertainment, too! Extra special thanks to the
Burger Bash Committee of Anne Choe, Chris Crockett,
and Kristi Panahi for organizing the first
event of the new band year!
-
A big thank you to everyone who helped
with Money Day on August 9! We handled over
260 band and guard students in less than 3 hours. (We
heard that another KISD high school band's money day
lasted from 9 AM to 6 PM!). Kudos to Jan
Silliman, Treasurer, for a well organized day.
-
Thanks to Robert
and Adam Strauss, Austin Taylor, Janet and Connor Aimone,
Chris and Shelley Bailey, Mr. Janda, Gus Lucas, and
Katie and Daniel Silliman for helping clean out
the Band & Band Boosters storage room on July 1.
It looks MUCH better!
